Literacy by Radio

The COVID -19 pandemic brought about a disruption in the ENGINE II girls learning and adaptive teaching and learning measures were deployed through the use of technology. Physical classes were cancelled in adherence to Government regulations of social distancing and learning was continued with girls who owned or had access to android phones on WhatsApp groups.
However, for about 500 girls who did not have access to android phones and mostly fell within the basic literacy to post basic group, a learning opportunity was provided through Literacy by Radio leveraging on the existing mass literacy program for hard to reach Communities.
Literacy by Radio in Nigeria is a well-articulated mass literacy program run by National Commission for Mass Literacy Adult and Non-Formal learners (NMEC) with a well thought out curriculum supported by a ‘Learner’s Primer’ for the adult learners, including civic education making the user a well-rounded individual.
This program is reaching ENGINE II beneficiaries in underserved communities whose learning sessions were stopped abruptly by the pandemic.
