International Literacy Day 2020

Tabitha Cumi Foundation has worked tirelessly to fill the literacy gap among marginalised girls and women in the FCT through its ‘Second Chance Education’ project for women who have lost hope of getting an early education by enrolling them in adult literacy centres, thereby giving them a ray of hope and the ‘Back to School’ project which identifies young girls who dropped out from school, enrols them back to school and also monitors them to ensure they stay in school till completion.
To this end the organisation commemorated the International Literacy Day on the 11th of September 2020 to share experiences and learn best practices from relevant stakeholders. The keynote address was delivered by Mrs Magdalene Anene-Maidoh , an education advocate and consultant while the Special Guest Of Honor was the NATCOM UNESCO Secretary General Mr Lateef Olagunju .
The Mercy Corps Nigeria Country Director, Mr NdubuisiAnyanwu and the Program Director Mercy Corps Joy Aderele and representatives of Executive Secretary National Commission For Mass Literacy Adult and Non Formal Education (NMEC), FCT Education Secretariat ,Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB), Department for Mass Education, FIDA , Change Managers International ,National Association For Literacy Support (NOGAALS) and stakeholders from the Community were in attendance to listen to the ENGINE II girls, their facilitators and Community heads share their COVID -19 teaching and learning experience.
